This week has seen several terrorist attacks. The lives that have been lost are from different faiths, different ages, and men and women. It is hard to fathom how to stop these attacks and it can be frightening.

One of the most meaningful moments (there were several) on my recent trip to the Holy Land, happened on Sunday evening when we all gathered in the hotel lounge to watch the online worship service of St. Luke’s.

Today is Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is the 40 day period (not counting Sundays) before Easter. Ever since I was in junior high, I have given up something for Lent. Every year I read articles and hear comments about how insignificant it is to give up things like diet coke, coffee, or sweets (my Lenten sacrificial mainstays) and I fully agree.
