“Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” -1 Chronicles 16:11

Did you know there are 650 prayers listed in the Bible, and approximately 450 recorded answers to prayer? The Bible records 25 times that Jesus prayed during his ministry here on earth. Have you ever wondered why Jesus prayed? After all, he was God’s Son! The answer lies in WHY Jesus was praying. He wasn’t praying to let God know His thoughts and feelings; God already knew them! Neither was He praying to gain something from God; even Jesus was denied the request to “let this cup pass from me” (Matt. 26:39). Jesus was praying because it drew Him near to His Father. It brought Him close to the One who created Him and loved Him more than anyone. Prayer can do the same thing for us, if we realize it’s not only for God-it’s for US!

Dear God, I come before you today because I need a regular reminder that I’m not in charge of the world. I’m praying because it helps me remember that You’re watching over my loved ones. I’m praying because it reminds me that You provide everything I need, and I don’t need to worry about a thing! I’m praying to remind myself that everything good comes from Your hand!

Today, I pray for my grandchildren as they start to school. Give their teachers patience, kindness, energy, and lots of love to spread around. I’m praying for my family, friends, and acquaintances, that You’d keep each one safe and healthy, and that all would grow closer to You each day. Father, I pray for those who are sick, those who have problems they can’t solve, and those who are sad. Let them feel your presence with them! I pray that all would seek Your direction in every area of their lives.

God, I’m so grateful for the extraordinary ways You have blessed me. Thank You for sending everything I need to live a comfortable life, thank You for surrounding me with people who love me, and thank You for being the One I can always count on. Most of all, thank You for Jesus and making a way for Believers to live forever! Nudge me when I need to be reminded that I’m not in charge, and free me from worry, as I grow to trust You more each day. Amen

O the pure delight of a single hour that before thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with thee, my God, I commune as friend with friend!
