“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” -1 John 4:7

My mother was a wonderful mother. She worked hard to provide a home for my family. She brought great joy to our lives through her thoughtfulness, hard work, and dedication to our family. She helped to build a wonderful family-owned business. My Mom was strong, and her life was a blessing to so many.

My mom passed on many good things to me. As Mother’s Day approaches, I have spent some time thinking about my mom. She passed away in 2014. We miss her. I am grateful for all that she did for me and for my family. Of the many things that my mom did for me I want to express my gratitude that she took me to church. Few things shaped my life more than growing up in church. My mom made sure that I was in worship, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, camp and so much more.

Each time that a child is presented to the church for baptism the parents are asked, “Will you endeavor to keep this child under the ministry and guidance of the Church until they by the power of God shall accept for themselves the gift of salvation and be confirmed as a full and responsible member of Christ’s Holy Church?” I am thankful that my mom lived up to this value. Because of her I learned about the love of God.

Mother’s Day is an important time to reflect and give thanks. Our mothers blessed us in so many ways. We have also been blessed by our grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and the many faithful women who have shown us the love of God. My mother raised me in the church and because of that I learned how to love God with our whole heart, mind, soul. Mothers are a gift. I hope you will spend some time today to reflect and give thanks.
