“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, a sixth day.” -Genesis 1:31

Lauren Daigle is one of the exciting voices in modern Christian Music. She has had several songs make it to both the Christian Music charts as well as the Billboard Top 100. At 31 years old she is one of the most successful crossover artists. She has won two Grammy Awards, seven Dove Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, and two America Music Awards. Her music has reached thousands of people all around the world.

The musical success of Lauren Daigle is exceptional. Many people have the dream to make it at this level in the music business. Few find success. Lauren did not even consider music as a possibility until college. While in high school, Lauren became sick. She had to stay home from school for almost two years. She did not let that slow her down. In fact, she wanted to go into the medical field and become a medical missionary. She always knew she wanted to serve God and others.

It was in college that she found her voice. Soon she would be leading worship and singing in the college choir. Her family encouraged her to try out for American Idol, and she did. Although she did not make it to the show, her work paid off as she began to see she could use her voice to praise God and help others worship.

Lauren’s newest song, “Thank God I Do,” is a powerful song. Recently, I was listening to this song while driving. The words struck me as deeply powerful. Here is the chorus:

I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t know You
I’d probably fall off the edge
I don’t know where I’d go if You ever let go
So keep me held in Your hands
I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t know You
Thank God, I do

Our lives are filled with highs and lows. We all have dreams. Some dreams are realized, and some are not. Sometimes we find success, even beyond our own hope. Regardless of how our life progresses, we are defined by God. When we learn who God is, we learn who we are. This is why we are asking our family of faith to read through the Bible this year. The more we encounter our God who loves us, and who cares for us, the more we will see our own value and purpose.

When God created us, He clearly said we are “good.” If God sees us, His Children, as a good creation, we also should see ourselves in this way. We are loved by God. We are cared for by God. We have been given gifts and purpose from God. The more we learn about God, and the more we grow in our relationship with God, the more we will see ourselves as “good.”
