You never know how your actions can make a positive difference in another’s life. When we act out of kindness towards one another, we can encourage others and share God’s love with the world.
Charlene was a faithful member at one of the first churches where Aimee and I served. She was known for her kindness and unforgettable smile. She welcomed our family and treated us as if we were hers.
Our first year serving in her church was also Aimee’s first year of teaching. I was a student pastor, serving two churches while also attending seminary. I will never forget the day that Charlene sat down next to my Aimee in the small country sanctuary and handed Aimee an envelope. Charlene told her that she had been a teacher for many years and understood how expensive it was set up a classroom. She wanted to help out. The envelope contained a small gift that made a difference not only in the lives of Aimee’s students, but also for our family. It seems like such a small gesture, but I assure you it made a big difference!
Kindness changes lives. When we seek to make a positive difference in the lives of others, we are sharing God’s love and bringing hope to the world. It has been over 13 years since Charlene gave this gift to my wife. Our family has never forgotten Charlene’s kindness and the memory still stands as a lesson to me of the importance of kindness, generosity and a willingness to genuinely care for others.
