“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.” – Luke 9:24

Almost five years ago, we made the decision to sell our home and downsize.  I loved that house, probably too much.  I was unhappy about the whole thing.  After all, we shared a fence with Bob and Marsha!

I’ve been a collector for a long time – a guardian of “fine junk.”  I had a great deal of storage space in my other home and knew I’d have to get rid of some of my treasures before moving, which I didn’t want to do.  But my daughter, Amy, and I started going through everything and began the process of culling out my collections.  It was very difficult at first because I was attached to my stuff – once again, too attached – but something happened.  The more we went through, the more we got rid of, the freer we felt.  Stuff can be a very heavy burden.

Believe me, I still have no shortage of “fine junk,” but removing some of the stuff in my life that required my attention freed up time for me to spend on relationships with others.  Even so, my life is still busier than I would like for it to be.  As Lent approaches, I am committing to making time each day to spend with my Lord – my most important relationship.  Do you think you can free up time to do the same?
