Health is a significant concern for us all. These days it seems like that is almost all we talk about. For Eric and Crystal Skaggs, health has been at the top of mind for almost three years. Eric has stage four colon cancer. He’s had multiple surgeries and lengthy treatments. It has been a difficult journey for their family, to say the least.
Last month, the Skaggs family went to Mexico so that Eric could go through a new form of treatment. While Eric and his family were away for several weeks, their friends watched their house, kept them in their prayers, and performed a significant act of kindness that lifted the spirits of the entire family when they came home.
While the Skaggs were away, Eric’s friends took an old Ford Bronco that had been sitting in Eric’s driveway. It was a car that Eric loved and hoped to restore, but had not been able to work on while he was sick. The friends had the Broncho towed to a shop where they would spend their own time and money restoring the classic Bronco. They called themselves, “Team Bronco.” They restored the engine, replaced the tires, and painted the Bronco a beautiful cobalt blue. When they were finished, they parked it back in the driveway for Eric and his family to find when they arrived home.
When the Skaggs family returned, they found the fully restored Bronco. It was overwhelming to see the vehicle brought back to life. The Skaggs’ driveway was full of friends wearing matching “Team Bronco” shirts and, of course, masks. The Skaggs family returned home to a greater joy than they could have imagined. Their friends showered them with love and kindness. It was a priceless gift.
Every day we have family, friends, and neighbors who are going through difficult times. Health, finances, and personal struggles are just a few of the trials that our loved ones face. We can help to make a positive difference. When we keep our eyes open for a way to help; when we give of our time and talents, we can bless our neighbors.
