“Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.”- Proverbs 19:20
A favorite movie in our house was the Disney Pixar movie Cars. The movie tells the tale of Lightning McQueen, an over-confident, self-absorbed rookie race car. In the race for the Piston Cup, there is a photo finish with Lightning McQueen finishing in a 3-way tie. They decide to have a run-off between these cars several days later in California. On the way, Lightning McQueen gets lost in the sleepy town of Radiator Springs off the main highway. He ends up destroying part of the road and belongings of the town and is sentenced to community service to stay there until he can fix the road. Lightning McQueen is not happy with this new arrangement because of the delay it’s causing to his life. But it’s during these next few days that Lightning McQueen learns from the other cars of this town. These unexpected friends help him to understand more about what is truly important and valuable. He ends up realizing his pride and selfishness and begins to show humility and compassion to others.
Sometimes in our life we can also become self-absorbed or in too big of a hurry to see where we really need to change our attitudes and our own actions. The unexpected, and at first unwelcomed, stops in our life can end up giving us a new perspective that we would have never realized we needed. There are people who reach out to us and help us to grow. Who have been those friends in your life? Thank God for these moments and relationships that have made a difference in a change of perspective for you.
