“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us…” -Romans 12:6

The Arizona Diamondbacks were preparing to play the Los Angeles Dodgers. This professional baseball game was to be played at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. The players were in uniform, the stadium staff was in place to host the game and the fans were beginning to take their seats. Unfortunately, the game could not begin. A swarm of bees had also arrived at the stadium. The bees were just behind home plate. It was dangerous situation that would delay the game for just over two hours.

The Diamondbacks called in a professional beekeeper. The beekeeper that was called to the park was Matt Hilton. Matt arrived with his equipment and removed the swarm of bees. Although he was not a talented ballplayer Matt was the hero of the night in Phoenix. The bees were successfully and safely relocated. The Diamondbacks were so grateful to Matt that they brought him back to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game.

God has created each of us as unique individuals. We have been created with a purpose. That purpose is to share the love of God with the world. To fulfill this purpose, God has given each of us gifts to help share this love with the world. It truly takes all people, all gifts, to communicate the love of God to all people.

Matt Hilton is not a professional ballplayer. He could not throw the ball, bat, or run like the athletes who took the field that night in Phoenix. However, the game would have not happened without Matt using his gifts to help. A beekeeper was necessary for all to play ball that evening.

You have been given gifts, talents, and resources to bless others. You have the ability to share God’s love and bring hope to the world. When we connect with God and understand the great mercy and love that God has for us, our eyes will be opened to see God’s good purpose for each of us. You are necessary. Your gifts are needed. Together we will bless others and make a difference for God.
