Welcome from the Unity Sunday School class on a dreary foggy morning brightened by so many smiling faces. After President Susan Hollingsworth opened with prayer, we shared our joys and concerns and welcomed back some of our members.
Rev. Keith King presented our lesson on one of the events of Holy Week that took place in the Upper Room. To understand the significance of this meal, one needs to know the combination of many ideas. The Jewish people celebrated the Feast of Unleavened Bread for one week and the Passover was celebrated on one day of that week. The Passover from Exodus 12 is in honor of the night the Lord “passed” over the the homes of the Israelites who had been instructed to put the blood of the lamb on their door frames. Passover is an annual remembrance of how God delivered the people from Egypt.
In the Last Supper from Matt. 26 several events occur: Jesus tells His disciples one will betray Him, He describes Communion or the Eucharist and He predicts Peter’s denial. Rev. King also discussed various covenants with the Israelites from the Old Testament and how the Last Supper set the stage for a new covenant. Thank you Rev. King for being with us this month.
Remember next Sunday after Sunday School we will be assembling bags showing God’s love for residents of the Jesus House. Everyone have a blessed week and we will see you Palm Sunday.
