On Joe Wine’s final day of excellent service as Upper Room President, 28 gathered. Vice President Phil Brougher will begin his presidential term next Sunday.
We discussed the need for prayers for many of our class members who are in trying times. Many need special prayers for difficulties with health issues. In no organized order the following class members can benefit from special prayers: John and Jeanette Willet, Peggy Miller, Marolyn Sauls, Tom and Dixie Galloway, Karen Matheke, Pat Duncan and her son, Keith, Margaret Howell, Sheri Buckles, Doreen Doney.
As we near Easter, Ron Howell continued leading discussion from the video, “Final Words from the Cross” narrated by Rev. Adam Hamilton. First, we discussed what constitutes mob mentality and why mobs often consider themselves in a pious and just manner. This discussion led to us revealing some instances where the mob mentality had temporarily prevailed in our own personal experiences. A discussion followed concerning how Jesus taught us to suffer as He himself felt abandoned on the cross.
Then our class researched the four Gospels for Jesus’ final sayings while He hung dying on the cross. The seven sayings Jesus uttered were: “Father forgive them;” “Today you shall be in paradise;” “Behold your son – behold your mother;” “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?;” “I thirst;” “It is finished.” and finally, “Into Your hands I commit My spirit.” The class felt the power of all these words. Thanks to Ron Howell for a well-researched and skillful presentation.
