Dylan Horton is a defensive end for the Houston Texans, just drafted in 2023. He had a great start as a rookie player, but everything came to a halt last October when Horton received the life-changing news that he had Stage 4 Hodgkins-Lymphoma. Over the last year he went through 6 months of treatment and then 6 months of recovery and training to be back on the football field. He is now in remission and back in a Texans uniform.

Good Morning American aired an interview with him Monday morning before the Monday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys, near his hometown of Frisco. During the interview, it is evident that his family and his faith have been key components in helping this young athlete through this challenging time. Those who have walked with him have commented on his positive attitude throughout this cancer journey. This was evident through Horton’s words at the end of the interview when he said, “Thinking about the future is nice, planning for the future is even better. But we can’t control the future. The best thing we can do is to worry about what we can control, and that’s our actions in the present moment, right now.”

In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells us not to worry about our life, as he reminds us about the birds of the air and the flowers of the field being taken care of. And then the scripture says, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these will be given to you as well. So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” (Matthew 6:33-34) Trusting in God with all the details of our lives is something that provides a firm foundation. We do not know what tomorrow will bring, and our life will include hills and valleys, but we can set our minds and hearts on God in the present moment. God is with us and cares for us, so seek him with your heart and trust him with your life.
