Albert Brigas is a hard-working mechanic in San Antonio, TX. He has worked as a mechanic most of his life. Albert is also a veteran of the Vietnam war. Although he has taken great pride in his work, Albert is ready to retire.

Recently, Albert’s boss, Rudy Quinones called him into his office. Rudy knew that the only thing that was keeping Albert from retiring was the fact that his house was not paid off. Albert wanted nothing more than to retire and spend time with his family. When Albert sat down in Rudy’s office he watched as Rudy began to write a check for the remainder of his mortgage.

Rudy Quinones had been listening to Albert express his desire for many months. Rudy knew that the best thing he could do to express his gratitude to Albert for all of his years of service was to help speed his goals along towards retirement.

Rudy knew that the success of his business was, in part, due to the hard work of one of his most dedicated employees, Albert. He was to express his gratitude. Rudy said, “To give them something they’ve been yearning for their whole lives—it’s incredible.” Rudy and Albert were both experiencing the joy of gratitude.

When we spend time considering all that others have done we will realize that we have much to be thankful for. Like Rudy Quinones, when we express our gratitude in a tangible way, we will experience a great joy that only comes from the depth of giving thanks.
