“Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods.” –Psalm 26:2-4
I recently found a great new place to get breakfast. It is in the small community of Palmer, Texas. Palmer sets just south of Dallas. We stopped there on our recent mission trip to Houston. This great little breakfast place is called Doughnuts Etc. It is a small shop run by a neat couple who have been selling delicious doughnuts in this community for years.
Our mission team went into this shop to get doughnuts and coffee. While we were waiting for our order to be filled we looked at all the great decorations on the wall. There was an amazing painting of Jesus on the wall near the counter. I told the couple that I really liked the painting. They were grateful for the compliment.
What followed from that brief exchange was a moment that strengthened the faith of our team. After we complimented the painting of Jesus the owner of doughnut shop turned to me and she said, “He is my Lord. I hope he is yours, too.” I quickly assured her that Jesus was, indeed my Lord. We then told them that we were on our way to share hope and love with the people of Houston. It was an unexpected and exciting early morning exchange.
The owners of Donuts Etc. have served great coffee and breakfast to the community of Palmer for many years. They have also been a family who is committed to share Christ when the opportunity arises. Our mission team was blessed by the gentle sharing of faith. We were also reminded that we all have the responsibility to share our faith when the opportunity. That early morning exchange at Donuts Etc. is a reminder that sharing our faith is something we will not regret.
