On beautiful Patriotic Sunday new president, Peggy Miller, welcomed 31 attending. Joseph and Sheri Buckles are celebrating their 21st anniversary. Carolyn Rogers returned from her annual “sister reunion.” Carolyn, the middle sister of five, spent four days at the lake in Branson, MO. Neil Corneil shared tomatoes and zucchini!
(Update) A simple memorial was conducted for Keith Robinson, Pat Duncan’s son who died June 25. Class members furnished lunch for the family at Pat’s home after his service. Our condolences to Pat and the family.
Health reports: Jeanette Willet is recovering at home (and is ‘bored’ with her diet). Bill Morris’ sister, Pat, is in a skilled nursing facility after she broke her other hip.
CALENDAR ALERT: MONDAY, JULY 10 – 11:30 a.m. – Ladies Lunch Out at Johnny Carino’s Restaurant, 7900 S. Walker. Then to Jean Corneil’s lovely home for dessert. Vi Roberts will be Jean’s co-hostess.
Charlie Morgan presented the lesson for Jeanne who was attending a family funeral. The topic was Moses’ call from God at the burning bush. Some class members shared reports of having personally receiving a call or message from God. Charlie noted that none were alerted by such a powerful, startling call as had Moses. Nor were any calls as potentially dangerous as God’s request that Moses risk his life.
As an adult Moses, a Hebrew, prospered until he killed an Egyptian guard in anger. Moses fled to Midian where he married and cared for sheep owned by his father-in-law, a Midian priest. On God’s mountain, Horeb, a messenger appeared to Moses from a flame within a bush that was not consumed. God’s voice said, “I am the God of your father, Abraham, and Isaac’s God and Jacob’s God.’’ (Exodus 3:6) God told Moses of the pain of His people oppressed in Egypt.
God then ordered Moses to go to Pharaoh and to lead the Israelites out of Egypt to a “land full of milk and honey.” God said “I will be with you and will help bring my people out of Egypt. Then you are to return here to worship God on this mountain.” (Exodus 3-12) Moses was fearful of returning as a wanted murderer to Egypt, but God assured Moses that He would ‘be with him and his brother, Aaron, to lead their oppressed Hebrew people to freedom.
The study author wrote: “God calls us to partner with Him, as Moses did, to act as agents of justice in today’s world. Justice comes when we work with God in God’s own redemptive plan.”
