I’m convinced there are two main types of people: those who don’t care for back to school, and those who love hanging out at Office Depot anytime during the year because it reminds them of back to school! I am definitely in the latter group; I love back to school season.
I think I love this time of year because it feels like a brand new start. Remember the beginning of each school year? It was a clean slate: no matter how you had done the year before, you were given new opportunities. If there were classes you didn’t like and friends who weren’t in your home room – you were given another chance. If you had absences or unfinished homework – you got to start off at 100%. Even if you loved the previous school year, somehow you just knew that his one would be better.
I still get that magical “do-over” feeling when shopping for back to school supplies. This year I saw a Trapper Keeper by Mead. It is a notebook that has lots of extra pockets and dividers. It snaps shut to keep everything safe inside. I always thought they were the gold star of school supplies, but typically too expensive for us.
Now I realize that the true star of that great “new start” feeling is a grace-filled relationship. When you are loved by someone who truly wants the best for you, you will discover an unlimited amount of “do-overs.”
During this year’s back to school season, embrace a brand new day. God is more concerned about you growing in the ways that you love, than any “bad grades” you may think you have in the past. Welcome to a new beginning!!
