“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear or be in dread of them: for it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Did your mother or father ever sing you a lullaby or maybe a special song? Being a musical lover, I have always sung the song “A bushel and a peck” to my oldest! We make up new verses, do a little dance, and giggle the whole way through. It’s our special thing!

When I was pregnant with my youngest son, I came across this new worship album by a husband and wife duo, Caleb and Kelsey. They sing these beautiful worship music “mash-ups,” combing popular songs into one new song. My favorite being the “Oceans/ You make me Brave” mix. I’ve always loved the words to these two songs, but this version is just so calming. So much so that when my son, Palmer, arrived and was being fussy this was the only thing I could do to get him to calm down. Like magic, within the first chords he instantly stops crying, calms down and drifts off the sleep. It has worked so well that my oldest son will yell “mama, hurry, play Oceans” while riding in the car when Palmer gets upset!

This has now become Palmer’s special song and I can’t help but think what a powerful song it is!

“Your love, in wave, after wave, crashes over me, crashes over me. For you are for us, you are not against us. Champion of Heaven you made a way for all to enter in. ‘Cause you make me brave.”

So powerful! Through him all things are possible and that gives us the courage to be brave in any situation! The song goes onto say, “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, wherever you would call me.” I sing these and this becomes my prayer! God lead me, let me fully trust in the path you have set for me!

Together with my 3-year-old, we belt these words out, “Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander and my faith will be made stronger, in the presence of my Savior.” I pray my boys listen and sing these words as they get older knowing through their faith all things are possible and this life can be more than they ever imagined. Their dreams can be greater, not easier, but the rewards of their faithfulness with be abundant through Christ! These words provide so much hope for the here and now and for our future! I hope they will for you too!
