Every year there are several things I do to get in the Christmas spirit. I love reading our daily devotionals from the St. Luke’s staff. I love going to look at Christmas lights. I love decorating my home, putting the lights on the house, putting the tree up, and placing the nativity scene on the mantle. But, one of the things I must have every year to experience Christmas is Christmas carols and Christmas music.

I love singing some of the great Advent and Christmas hymns at church like “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus”, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”, and “Angels We Have Heard on High”. Something about this music stirs in my soul and prepares my heart to receive God’s grace at Christmas.

On Wednesday night this week I went to our Downtown Campus at St. Luke’s to hear the annual “Symphony of Christmas” that Robert Fasol, the choir, orchestra, and other St. Luke’s musicians put on. It was an amazing evening of incredible music. I left that night feeling prepared for Christmas in a way I wasn’t before I heard the concert.

Thank you to Robert Fasol. Thank you to the Downtown Campus Chancel Choir. Thank you to the orchestra. Thank you to the Downtown LifeLight singers. Thank you to the El Sistema students who performed at the pre-concert. Thank you to so many others who played a role in bringing that concert to life. You helped prepare my heart during this Advent season.

What do you do to prepare you heart during Advent? Do you like Christmas music as well? If so, what’s your favorite Christmas carol?
