“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” -1 Thessalonians 5:11
Every weekday morning Aimee and I get our girls ready for the school day. We make breakfast so that they go to school with full bellies. We make lunches so that they are fed in the middle of the day. Backpacks are prepared. Teeth and hair are brushed. We take them to school. Many students around Oklahoma have the same morning experience. However, many other students fail to receive the same level of care.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Gene Goodson understands that students need support to help them be academically successful. He approached the faculty at Cornelson Elementary in Fairview, Oklahoma. He wanted to help set up a program where the students experienced positive role models at the school. He helped to create a program called FAITH. Now, everyday students are greeting by volunteers as they arrive at school. They receive a high-five and a hug. The FAITH volunteers are helping to have a positive presence in the school as they encourage students and help provide for their education.
A high-five, a hug, a caring word are just a few ways that the men of FAITH are offering encouragement to the students in Fairview. It does not take much to make a difference in the life of another person. Trooper Goodson and the men of FAITH are a reminder to me that part of role as a people of faith are to encourage others, to build others up so that they can live life to the fullest. What are you doing today to share God’s love and bring hope to the world?
