November 6, 2026 – Daily Devotional

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household” -Ephesians 2:19

This Sunday, St. Luke’s will celebrate our Confirmation students as they come before the church, profess their faith, and take the vows of membership. It will undoubtedly be an exciting day for our family of faith as we gather to welcome our newest members.

I always look forward to Confirmation Sunday. It is one of our most special worship services. It is a privilege to witness the confirmation class come forward, stand before the congregation, and commit to sharing God’s love and bringing hope to the world. This moment is something they have been working on for some time. The students have been in class together for the past several months. They have studied and met with mentors to help make this important decision. It is a holy moment when they say “I do” to the confirmation questions.

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to meet with some of our confirmation students. I was reminded of an important part of our faith. Our faith is both personal and corporate. Although our faith means so much to us as an individual, it is through others that our faith is deepened and enriched. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, said, “The Bible knows nothing of solitary religion.” We experience God through one another, and our practice of faith is strengthened by those who are on this journey with us.

This is why the students will come before the congregation. It is important for them to see that they are not standing alone. This Sunday they will stand with the St. Luke’s youth ministry staff, the clergy, their parents and grandparents, their faith friends who have been praying for them, and a loving congregation who will join the confirmation students in renewing their commitment to loving God and loving our neighbors.

We are often tempted to think that we can take the journey of faith by ourselves. The truth is, we need each other. We need the loving support of our family of faith, and we need to play an active role in supporting others. There is no greater way to love our neighbors than to be an active participant in the journey of faith with them.

Confirmation

St. Luke’s is getting ready to start our next Confirmation class!  Confirmation serves as an important part of your student’s journey of seeking and understanding Christian faith. It provides a time for the students to learn more about important beliefs in Christianity and the church, understanding our Methodist/Wesleyan tradition, and to make a step forward about living out their own faith. This year’s class is for students entering 7th grade but welcome older students without a Confirmation experience.  Classes will meet weekly in September and October on Sunday mornings from 10:45 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Downtown Campus and 12:30 – 2 p.m. at the Edmond Campus. We are beginning our Confirmation journey on Sunday, August 23 with a Confirmation kickoff lunch from 12:15 -2 p.m. Please register below for confirmation.
