“…Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” – Ephesians 4:29
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” Author, unknown.
What we do matters. For instance, an act of kindness can be just as contagious as an act of meanness. Both can spread like wildfire. So often in our lives, we are quick to say what we’re feeling whether it’s good or bad. We say these things out loud and have no idea who those words can affect…for the good or bad.
There was a week where I was feeling anger, hurt and sadness daily. It was a rough week. There were so many things I wanted to say and most of them weren’t nice. We’ve all been there. I didn’t catch on until the third day or so, but I was seeing kindness slogans everywhere. I felt like God was giving me a simple message reminding me to choose kindness.
About the middle of the week, I saw a little girl with a t-shirt on that read, “A little kindness can change everything”. It totally struck a cord with me and I thought to myself, “Ok God, you have my attention.” This little girl’s mom is a friend of mine, so we started talking about the t-shirt. We weren’t talking about where she got it or how much it was. We were discussing how we must start teaching our kids about kindness at an early age because of all the negativity in the world today. We have to lead by example, because their little eyes and ears are always paying attention. Now, her daughter is 2 and obviously can’t read, but she was unknowingly spreading a message of kindness.
How cool would it be if we could all, unknowingly, or knowingly spread a message of kindness? I’m pretty sure it would spread like wildfire.
