I am really looking forward to the new sermon series titled, “The One Thing” that kicks off this Sunday, September 4 and runs through September 25. I was so intrigued and inspired after reading the book titled, “The One Thing” by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan that I had to share some of the stories and insight from the book with you! You may recognize author, Gary Keller as the founder and chairman of the board for Keller Williams Realty, the world’s largest real estate franchise by agent count. The book cover says, “No matter how success is measured, personal or professional, only the ability to dismiss distractions and concentrate on your ONE Thing stands between you and your goals. The ONE Thing is about getting extraordinary results in every situation.”
Before we dive into the sermon series on Sunday, I have just three things to say about “The ONE Thing!”
First, as we jump into the season of fall, I think the timing for this series is going to be so refreshing for both our minds and our souls. Fall typically begins a new season of packed calendars and unending commitments that take us right up to the holidays in the blink of an eye. At the same time, fall brings with it a much welcomed coolness that can be so restorative. It is my hope that we use this time to become centered and focused on what really matters.
Second, we are aware more than ever that our world is full of distractions. These distractions are affecting how we relate to one another. We’ve all experienced a time with friends where they check their smartphones instead of talking and it’s likely we have been that person, too! Social media diverts our attention, television, computers and video games interrupt family time and the list goes on and on. I encourage you to begin thinking about what distractions exist in your life. You can begin by asking God to reveal to you the distractions preventing you from living the life God has for you.
And third, what if we begin to focus, daily on what is really important in life? Research has shown that multi-tasking is an ineffective way of accomplishing anything. Real growth can occur when we put the most important things, first in life. We can transform our lives and the world around us when we make time to focus on The One Thing that really matters.
If you live close to one of our campuses, I hope you will join us for this series! If not, be sure and watch live online, Sundays at 10:50 am or visit our sermon video library, anytime!
