Today began our third full day here in Honduras and our second full day of work. The beauty here still takes our breath away every morning when we wake up. I think some in our group are looking for opportunities for full time mission work so they can just stay here in Honduras!
We went back to the Methodist School this morning to continue our work there. We noticed there were three cruise ships in port today and there were signs of tourists everywhere. The school sits just a couple blocks from the port where the cruise ships come in and they can look out the windows of their classrooms and see all the tourists coming to the island.
We split into two groups again this morning. One group taught VBS to the younger grades and the other group continued work on the playground. We found that the workers had made great progress on the pad of the playground since yesterday and we were able to start setting the posts and building the platform of the tower.
In the afternoon we tutored English with the high school students and continued working on the playground. Several of the students kept running down the hill to check on the progress of their playground. Every time they came down they would thank us for what we were doing with the biggest smiles on their faces!
About 3:30 this afternoon we packed everything back up and loaded up in our bus to go to the orphanage that our mission teams have worked with in the past. We got to meet all the boys that are at the orphanage and have a chance to visit with them all and take some hygiene kits to them that we brought with us from people at St. Luke’s. We went out into the yard and spent some time playing soccer, frisbee, and swinging on the swings with the boys.
We made it back to our house for a late dinner where we had fresh fish that one of our hosts caught today on a fishing tour. It was a fantastic dinner! Since dinner we’ve had some down time to take walks on the beach, talk, play cards, and just hang out enjoying this beautiful paradise. Tomorrow we’ll be back at the school and look forward to making some more progress on the playground and continuing VBS and tutoring with the students. Look for more tomorrow!
