Bible Point: Our hearts are what matter to God
Key Verse: “The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
We learned this week that David had several older and more impressive-looking brothers. However, God chose David to be king because he was pleased by David’s heart (1 Samuel 16:1-13). Strengthen your family’s faith learning and growth at home with this easy idea.
- Share with your kids about an ethical dilemma you’ve faced in the past, maybe at work or in one of your relationships. Talk about the circumstances and how you decided what the right thing to do was.
- Present an ethical dilemma to your kids, such as having to choose between lying to protect a friend or being honest knowing the friend will feel betrayed. Talk about how you would decide what to do, and then ask your kids what they think God would say to do.
- Remind your kids that God knows where their hearts are when they must make tough decisions and that God can help them make those decisions.
PRAYER
Lord, You know everything about us—even the things we hide from other people. Help us make tough decisions with the right heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
