How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! – Psalm 133:1
One of my favorite pictures is one that was taken 13 years ago. It is a picture of me holding my oldest daughter when she was just a newborn. It was taken at the end of a long day of work. Work was challenging and often exhausting, but she brought a smile to my face.
Things are a little different now at the end of a workday. That little baby is a teenager with a busy schedule, homework, and friends of her own. We have two other children in our family now who also have grown up in the blink of an eye. Lots of things have changed over the past 13 years, but it is still my true joy to come home after a long day of work and see children greet me! Most nights, we share laughs and highlights of our days around the dinner table. The past several years have been filled with experiences that have taught me something important. Spending quality time with our family and our friends needs to be intentional. Investing quality time with our loved ones is something we will never regret. God intended for us to be in community. We are better together.
We work hard and when we get home, we are tired. It is easy to give into the desire to hurry through the nighttime routine and put everyone to bed. We need to resist that urge! We will never regret spending time with the ones we love. Dinner with friends and quiet time with family adds great meaning to our lives. We were not created to be alone and live a solitary life. Our lives are blessed by the ones we love, and we strengthen each other when we spend time together.
