“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” -2 Corinthians

Spring planting is happening at my house. The sun is shining, and the rain has come. This means several shopping trips to the nursery. My wife loves the challenge of going to the clearance section and finding plants that are on the verge of death. The store has given up on them, placed them in an out-of-the-way area, and marked the price down.

As spring gives way to summer, it brings great joy to walk past a plant that once was brown and lifeless and now is green, tall, and blooming with bright and beautiful colors. My wife takes great pride in returning these plants to health and beauty.

It often reminds me of how God’s grace works in our lives. The scriptures are full of stories of how God looks for us in our moments of struggle. In love, God comes to us and restores us. God is relentless in His pursuit of us, especially when we find ourselves isolated and hurting. Through grace, God calls to us, redeems us, and cares for us so that we find new life and new purpose.

God truly cares for us and is at work in our lives. While we often find ourselves paralyzed by our past failures and worrying about our future, God is at work. God’s love and grace free us to consider new possibilities and a new future. God is not content to let us linger on the clearance rack of life. Through love, God makes us a new creation.

As you look around on this spring day, consider how new life is emerging all around us. Let it be a reminder of God’s amazing love at work in our world, bringing new life to all.
