I love music, and I especially love how the music of our faith speaks to us. There is something unique about how lyrics, melody, and rhythm work together with the Holy Spirit to speak to our souls. I love hymns and contemporary worship music. So many of these songs have helped to develop my understanding of God and deepen my faith. I hope you make music part of your life of faith.

Recently, I was driving, and the song “Make Room” came on the radio. The lyrics caught my ear. This song is written and performed by Kim Walker-Smith. It is powerfully written and performed, but even more, it speaks to an essential part of our faith.

We are busy people. Work, family, and planned activities keep us constantly on the move. Even when we are not doing something, many of us (myself, especially) are planning the next event. We must be active, work hard, and enjoy life, but it is also important to examine our schedule and consider how we can make room for God.

How do you make room for God? Do you take time to pray? Do you set aside space to study God’s word? The things that fill the spaces of our calendars are important, but not the most important thing. It is God who works the most significant changes in our lives. God’s grace goes before us to make a way. God’s grace works within us to shape and mold us into the people God has called us to be. When we set time aside to be with God, we make room for God’s grace to move in our lives.

Making room for God in the midst of our business is a vital part of our faith. Let us train our ears to listen for God, set our eyes to focus on the things of God, and let our hearts find rest in the things of God. What do you need to do to make room for God?

“And I will make room for You
Do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to
And I will make room for You
In my life
In my home
In my family, Jesus.”
(Make Room, Kim Walker-Smith)
