“O taste and see that the Lord is good! Happy is the man who takes refuge in him!” –Psalm 34:8
Few things signal the arrival of the holiday season like the baking of holiday goodies. Pumpkin pie, gingerbread houses, fudge, and my favorite…cookies of any kind are all a part of this special time of the year. These special treats have taste, and a smell that can send your memory on a trip to special days gone by.
We excitedly greeted the arrival of this holiday season with the baking of some great cookies last weekend. The whole family was excited as the first tray of cookies was removed from oven placed on the cooling racks. They looked great. They smelled fantastic. We were all excited and could hardly wait to try one. Our anticipation of tasting a cookie was like my growing anticipation for all of the festivities between Thanksgiving Day and New Years Day.
The cookies were great! The holiday excitement is well under way at our house. As excited as I was for those cookies, there was something that happened that day that was even more wonderful. Ella Kate and Mary Beth filled a plate with cookies, wrapped them in foil. They took the cookies and crossed the street to our neighbor. You could see the smiles on their face as they rang the doorbell and gave our neighbor a fresh plate of cookies. Our neighbor smiled too!
There are many things that we look forward to during the holiday season. My daughters reminded me that nothing is more special than intentional acts of kindness. I love cookies. I love how they smell when they are fresh out of the oven. I love how they taste with a fresh glass of milk. The greater blessing is when we share the things we love with others. I hope you will look for opportunities over the next several weeks to share with others. It is through our intentional kindness that we show the love of God to others!
