“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” – Isaiah 6:8
As I prepare for the mission trip to Honduras, I find myself thinking about many unknowns. Who will I meet? What kinds of things will I see? Will I be strong enough for the task at hand?
I don’t often sit and dwell on things like this, but I have never visited Central America before. I have visited many US and European locations, but those were vacations. I suppose this trip is a vacation, in a sense, we are going to a tropical paradise after all! But traveling to serve a community outside the US is new to me.
The one thing I do know is that I will give it my all. I will sweat. I will ache. And I will push on until I can do no more. This is a different internal drive than my day-to-day self. I get up every day to work, but I know deep down I am preparing myself for a heavier burden and different level of commitment for the upcoming mission trip.
I realize on this trip that our group will represent the United States, Oklahoma, the Methodist church, and St. Luke’s. We will literally be carrying out the love and service Christ calls us to do.
I can’t wait to meet the people. I can’t wait to see new things. And I know is, through God’s grace, we will have the strength to carry out the task at hand.
