“And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.” -Galatians 6:9

This past Tuesday, my daughters started back to school. It was an exciting morning as they began a new year, in new classes. The girls were filled with great anticipation for what the school year would bring. In addition to excitement the girls were also filled with nervous anticipation. Molly Anne was starting in a new building. She was about to start 1st grade. She was walking into her school with wonder and apprehension.

For many people walking into a new situation can be scary, especially for a young first-grade student walking into a large building. Thankfully, Molly Anne was not alone. Her big sister, Mary Beth was with her. Mary Beth was about to start her fifth-grade year. As they walked into the school together Mary Beth reached over to Molly Anne and took her hand.  Hand in hand they walked down the long hallway together.  The day began, and Molly Anne was off to a great start.

Life is filled with moments that are intimidating. When we believe we are alone we can easily feel overwhelmed. Although each of us are strong in so many ways, feeling alone can make us feel powerless. When a friend holds our hand, when we are reminded that we are not alone in our journey and someone is with us.  We find strength beyond ourselves.

There are times in our lives when we need someone to take our hand and remind us that we are not alone. There are times when we have already walked the journey and we can offer our hand to provide comfort and peace to another on the journey of life. Mary Beth’s sweet gesture this week has reminded me that regardless the situation, we will have strength and hope for the journey ahead if we are willing to hold on to one another.
