Last month I went with some of our high school students and adult leaders to see Bob Goff speak at a church in Edmond. His book, Love Does, is a wonderfully entertaining collection of stories from his own life and people he’s met. Through his stories he weaves interweaves messages of what he’s learned about who Jesus is, what God is showing him through these experiences, and showing love to others.
One of the stories he shared this night was about his own children and knowing their fingerprints. He said that he has memorized one of the fingerprints for each of his three kids. He’s spent time studying it and could draw it for you today. He knows something so personally about something that makes each of his children unique.
I was impressed with the careful attention to detail it would take to memorize a unique fingerprint. I loved the idea that this reminds us about God’s attention to us. God knows the intimate details of our lives as well. He not only has carefully studied these characteristics about you, but He created them. This is an incredible reminder of God’s love for each of us and how he cares about the most intimate details of our lives that make us unique.
Bob Goff’s message in his book and each time he speaks is really summed up in the title of his book – Love Does. Love is an action and love is a story that we get to be a part of showing to others. For those closest to you, as an act of love, you might learn something as personal as knowing their fingerprints. For others, it might not be quite as personal, but it’s still important. We get to be a part of sharing the story of God’s love to others, so step out today and show love, just do it!
