“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2
Casey Spelman had just attended a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field. She, along with the thousands of other Cub fans were celebrating a win over the St. Louis Cardinals. As Casey Spelman was leaving the ball park she noticed a man trying, with no luck, to wave down a taxi.
The man Casey noticed was Yusef Dale. Yusef had also attended the game and was heading home. Yusef Dale is blind. Spelman watched as he unsuccessfully attempted to catch a cab. She walked over to Yusef and asked if he needed any assistance. Yusef said yes. The next few moments were caught on camera as Casey stood next to Yusef and helped him get a ride home.
The video was posted to social media by a person who was eating at a roof-top restaurant across from the ball park. This image spread quickly around the world. Within a short amount of time this image was shared 8,000 times. The caption of this small video read, “Awesome to see such kindness.”
When we see acts of kindness, like the one that Casey Spelman did for Yusef Dale, it brings a joy to our heart. It is what God has always intended for his people. God calls us to be a people who care for one another. When we look around and see the needs of the people standing right beside us, we can respond with a very simple question, “Do you need any help?” When we give our time and assistance to others we make a difference in their lives and possible in the lives of others who look on and see such kindness.
I hope we will all take a moment to look around today at the people around us. We may just find an opportunity to bless someone.
