“Draw near to God and he will draw near to you…” -James 4:8
My family has many goals for this summer season. It has been fun so far! We have had a great family vacation. We participated in mission work. My daughters went to cheer and pom camp. It has been a busy and eventful summer so far. Thankfully, summer is not over yet. We still have some time to go before school starts back.
One of the goals we have yet to accomplish, even begin, is the cleaning out of our garage. I understand that this is not as fun as vacation, but it is necessary. We need to remove some of the things that have been taking up space. We have a project to work on, and we need to make some room in the garage for it. So, we will be getting rid of some things soon. I see a nice donation to the United Women of Faith garage sale in our future.
As I have been thinking about our garage and the room we need in the near future, I could not help but think about how we often need to consider making room in our schedule to grow in our faith. Our schedules are packed, which makes it a challenge to take the time to do what’s needed for devotional time.
Even in the summertime, when my daughters are out of school, we are busy. We are good at keeping our calendars full. As a society, we value being busy. When we get caught up in our daily schedules, we sometimes forget to take time to schedule time to connect with God.
Growing in our faith takes time. It takes time to study and pray, but it is worth it. When we set aside time in our schedule for our faith, we will find that much of the rest of our lives becomes organized as well. It is tempting to neglect the practices of our faith when we feel busy. However, the life we truly desire is built by connecting with the one who has given life, abundant and full. (John 10:10)
Take a look at your schedule. Starting our day with prayer, taking some time to study our Bibles, and making sure we participate in worship helps make room to connect with God. Closing our day with a moment of gratitude, giving thanks to God for the day, reminds us that we are not alone, but that God is with us. Take a look at your schedule and let’s make sure we are making room for some time with God.
