Tomorrow is the big day! College football is back and everything is right in the world again. There is not much in this world that compares to the pageantry and glamour of Saturdays in the fall. The marching bands, tailgating, rivalries, and competition get me so excited.

I was born and raised to be a Sooner fan from an early age. Growing up, there was nothing better than watching a Sooner victory, or watching our rivals get beat. My grandmother taught me from an early age that we root against anyone wearing orange. However, I’ve learned over the years that maybe God’s favorite colors actually aren’t crimson and cream. Maybe God doesn’t actually have a favorite football team after all. (I know, I’m bordering on heresy!) As I’ve gotten older I have come to find there are actually some really great people who wear orange.

Maybe this is what Jesus meant when he told us to love our enemies. Rather than villainizing people who stand on the opposite side from us, we should get to know them and we might just find that we can respect them and even come to love them. Whether they are a Democrat or Republican, Oklahoman or Texan, Sooner or a Cowboy, they are all still God’s children and worthy of love.

This fall I’m going to do my best to not root against anyone wearing orange and maybe some of you will do your best to not root against anyone in crimson and cream. Who knows, we might just find this football season to be more fun than ever before!
