Today is the first day of school for many of the students and teachers in our community. Around the beginning of school I always think back to my first days of school. It was always a fun day because it meant I got to wear my new back to school clothes, we took first day of school pictures, and I had a chance to meet my new teacher.

Meeting a new teacher was always exciting because I had such great teachers in my life that profoundly shaped me into the person I am today. Even my mother-in-law and sister-in-law are teachers who continue to be an important part of my life! I have many favorite teachers who were all incredible in their own ways, but I will always look back fondly on my very first teacher. My kindergarten teacher was a wonderful woman named Mrs. Garrison.

Mrs. Garrison was the epitome of what a kindergarten teacher should be. She taught us our alphabet, how to read, how to count, our colors, and so many other things. But, more importantly, Mrs. Garrison was like a grandmother to us. She was kind, compassionate, caring, and loved us like we were her own kids.

Today I’m saying a special prayer for all of our students and teachers starting back to school. For our students, I’m praying that they will be taught, loved, and cared for by their teachers just like I was by Mrs. Garrison, and that they will work to the very best of their abilities this year to grow into the young people God created them to be. For our teachers, I’m praying that they will know how valued they are and that they will do everything in their power to help their students grow and know that they are loved and cared for. I hope you will join me in these prayers.

I want to invite you to tell me about your favorite teacher in the comments below.
