Game changers, revolutionaries, visionaries, and innovators have something in common. They’re unafraid of the truth—and they tell it. Through their words, actions (or inactions), discretions, integrity and grit, game changers reveal truth through the story of their lives.
Crucified alongside Jesus were two criminals. Luke chapter 23 exposes the contrast between the men nailed to the crosses on either side of our savior.
“One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: ‘Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!’ But the other criminal rebuked him, ‘Don’t you fear God,’ he said, ‘since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.’ Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ Jesus answered him, ‘Truly, I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.’” (Luke 23:39-43, NIV)
We don’t often think of a criminal as a game changer, but this one was. We don’t even know this man’s name, and yet he reveals truth that speaks to the very core of Christianity. In his last moments on earth, when you would expect him to be scared or angry over his fate, he chose Christ and in turn, received salvation—a promise God has made to each one of us. Game changer.
While I have tried to live my life in a way that would make Him proud, I have made my fair share of mistakes ranging from mildly embarrassing to creating scarring consequences. Yet, through His grace, I am loved and redeemed. It’s a truth that has shifted my perspective and will forever shape the way I love, the way I pray, and the way I walk with the Lord.
