My first full time job in the ministry was in Altus, OK. It was a fantastic place to begin my ministry. When I first moved to Altus, I was single, and I did not know one person in the community. As great as the ministry was in this new community, it was tough being the new guy in town. I had left behind my family, my fiancé, and my friends, and I did not realize how much I would miss them.
One evening, while I was at home alone, my doorbell rang. It was the mother of one of my youth. She told me that she had been thinking about me that day and wanted to bring me a gift. She reached into the bag she was carrying and handed me an amazing homemade cake. I was so grateful for her gift. It truly brightened my day.
It has been nineteen years since she brought me that cake, but I remember it like it was yesterday. The work and effort she put into baking and delivering that cake was well worth it. Her kindness blessed my life. When we use our talents, our resources, and our time to bless others, it truly makes a difference. We have the ability to bless others with an intentional act of kindness.
Is there a person around you that needs an act of kindness today? Maybe a friend, a family member, a co-worker, or a neighbor is feeling lonely or just simply going through a difficult moment. Use your gifts and your resources to be kind to them. Just like the Lord’s kindness brightens our day, our intentional kindness will brighten the day of our neighbor.
