Global Missions
St. Luke’s Mission is to Share God’s Love and Bring Hope to the World and we live out that calling by travelling around the world to bless the lives of our neighbors near and far.
For many years, members of the St. Luke’s congregation have traveled near and far to bring hope to families, bring comfort and support after disasters, lend a hand to communities and to share God’s love. We will continue to look for ways and opportunities to do that. We also continue to communicate with the friends we have made in Russia, Honduras, and so many other places and lift these communities up in prayer. We welcome your interest in our Global Missions and we look forward to the new connections we will make soon.
Mission Trips
Kisumu, Kenya is the third largest city in Kenya, it is an important inland port in the Lake Victoria circuit. Located just a few km north of the equator the temperature averages about 85 degrees year-round, the population is about 1.3 million. St. Luke’s first traveled to Kisumu in partnership with World Neighbors and Rotary International in October 2019 and met many wonderful, hard working people all dedicated to improving their local villages.
We hope to take our first mission team to work in partnership with the local community and the St. Mark’s Methodist Church. Most needs throughout Kenya center around finding sanitary water sources, providing access to medicine and healthcare and ensuring children can go to school. We are working to create new and lasting relationships with the people of Kisumu.

Costs not included: Visa costs, immunizations, additional baggage fees, incidentals, off itinerary activities
Type of work: Mostly light to moderate home repair, working with children, health clinic support, and some medical. Daily travel for 1-2 hours by van, conditions are hot, access to running water are limited at times, road conditions vary making travel slow and sometimes uncomfortable.
Types of participants needed: General skills, teachers, construction knowledge, medical skills, eager participants
Lodging: Accommodations are in safe hotels within the Kisumu area and daily travel to villages via vans with a support driver. Individual or shared rooms all with a private bath.
Risks: Africa is listed by the CDC as a Malaria risk country, and parts of the country are on the travel watch lists. Daily use of sunscreen and insect repellent is recommended.
Passport required: Yes valid at least 6 months beyond the trip dates
Visa required: Yes, visas can be obtained through the Kenya eVisa process and must be secured prior to departure.
Vaccinations/Medications: Up to date Tetanus required. Malaria precautions through an oral medication during the trip. Consult with primary care doctor for additional recommendations including vaccinations. Passport Health in OKC is a good source for the latest international travel health advice.
Since 1992, St. Luke’s has partnered with friends in Ulyanovsk, Russia, to share Christ’s love, grow in our faith, and serve those in need. What began as a trip to form relationships and build trust has grown into a lasting friendship with so many people and an opportunity for us to build and support two churches and a third in Siberia. We have been able to support our sister churches as they have developed programs, children’s ministries, and staff education. We have been able to host visitors from Russia in Oklahoma City and partner with our long-term friends in prayers and planning for growth.

St. Luke’s partners with Methodist churches in Alaska by sending small teams to help congregations throughout Alaska each summer. The mission teams have helped by cutting, stacking, and delivering firewood to the community, painting, hosting VBS, and other projects for the church. Enjoying the scenery and wildlife in Alaska is captivating, and it doesn’t hurt that it is typically 30 degrees cooler than Oklahoma in the summer.

Type of work: The scope of serving includes landscaping the church, working at Birchwood Camp, cleaning the grounds, rebuilding docks, and general maintenance of cabins.
Types of participants needed: Teachers, construction knowledge, general skills, eager participants
Lodging: Accommodations are at the Chugiak Methodist Church facility; with restroom, showers, and separate sleeping quarters for men and women.
Risks: Minimal. Daily use of sunscreen and insect repellent is recommended.

Roatan, Honduras is an island off the coast of mainland Honduras. The weather is tropical, warm and humid year-round. Roatan, although a popular tourist location, suffers with extreme poverty, poor education and limited access to healthcare. We have been traveling to Flowers Bay in Roatan since 2014. During this time our mission teams have helped the community improve their churches, schools, and homes. We have supported the local health clinic and helped form lasting relationships with the people in the community.
Each year we adapt our focus to support their current need while encouraging independence and sustainability in everything we do.

Lodging: Accommodations are in a multi-room home with individual beds and bedding for each team member, shared room for 2-6 people, private bathrooms in each sleeping room.
Risks: Minimal. Daily use of sunscreen and insect repellent is recommended.
