Downtown Campus Volunteer Opportunities

All you need is an active mind and body, ready to play and have fun with our children. You do not need to be a biblical scholar. You simply need to love God and have a desire to help children grow in their faith. All activities in the Children’s Ministry build a faith foundation for every child that will last a lifetime. Lessons and crafts are prepared ahead of time for each group, so you are not responsible for coming up with a lesson or the supplies.

Children’s Area Greeters
Greeters are the welcoming face of St. Luke’s to both church members and guests as they arrive in the children’s areas. Volunteers are needed on Sunday mornings and during Wednesday Night Alive sessions.

Small Group Leaders
Volunteers lead a small group of children in a discussion following the lesson that is presented at Wednesday Night Alive. WNA takes place for a number of weeks in the spring and fall. Volunteers are needed each week from
6 – 7:30 p.m.

Sunday School Teaching Assistants
This group helps teachers with a variety of things during class (crafts, games, etc.), allowing the teacher to focus on the lesson. Volunteers are needed every week on Sundays at 9:40 and 10:50 a.m.

Sunday School Substitute Teachers
Volunteers are willing to fill in for regular teachers who are unable to teach on a Sunday Morning.

Sunday School Teachers
Teachers deliver prepared lessons to groups of children on Sunday mornings. Volunteers can serve every week or on a rotation. Classes meet Sunday mornings at 9:40 and 10:50 a.m.

This ministry reaches the family of faith and the community with St. Luke’s message of Sharing’s God’s Love and Bringing Hope to the World. We strive to inspire, inform, and invite participation in all ministry areas of St. Luke’s.

Communication Volunteers
This team helps with preparing, labeling, and distributing newsletters, mailings, bulletins, and other publications.

Photography
There is always something happening at St. Luke’s, and we would like to have a record of these events. If you are a skilled photographer, or still learning, you can put your talents to use by helping the communication team capture events and activities.

Social Media Ambassadors
This team supports the message of St. Luke’s by sharing it through social media. Through Facebook and Instagram, the message of St. Luke’s reaches around the world.

Tech Crew
This team provides behind-the-scenes support for all worship services. Volunteers run the sound equipment, cameras, slides, and video. Training is provided and teams work on a rotational basis.

TV Ministry
St. Luke’s message of hope reaches thousands of people each week through the TV ministry and online videos. Volunteers are needed to help record the 10:50 a.m. Traditional Worship service. Training is provided, and shifts are on a rotating schedule.

The Care Ministry provides care, concern, prayer, and support for families and individuals at various stages, places, and circumstances of life. We share in sorrow and in life’s celebrations, emotionally and physically as one body of Christ. This ministry consists of clergy and trained laity in the St. Luke’s Family of Faith. We extend this care through cards of encouragement, hospital and home visits, phone calls, and email.  

Congregational Care Team
This ministry cares for the congregation during all of the seasons of life. The Care Team sends cards, makes phone calls, and visits people who are celebrating, grieving, or struggling. The Pastoral Team is continuously assessing the needs of our congregation. They review prayer requests and make assignments to the Congregational Care Team. Each week the assignments are distributed to our trained laity, who then provide care for those in need. This allows St. Luke’s to provide constant support to the congregation during any circumstance. Volunteer training and team assignments take place twice a year.

Intercessory Prayer Team
Each week when a prayer request is submitted in worship, online, via the app, or by phone, it is added to the prayer list. The Intercessory Prayer Team receives this list and dedicates time every day to pray for the needs of the St. Luke’s family of faith.

Notecard Writers
This ministry is designed to keep the St. Luke’s members who aren’t able to attend worship on a regular basis connected to their family of faith. Notecard Writers send these members a card each month and on special occasions.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
This group creates prayer shawls by knitting or crocheting while praying for the recipient. These beautiful shawls are given to those in the congregation who are ill or grieving. Our prayer is that the shawl will wrap the receiver in warmth, comfort, prayers, and hugs – so they can feel all the love that surrounds them.

St. Luke’s is committed to growing in faith through Christian discipleship in adult Sunday School classes and Community Groups. Volunteers are needed to help each class succeed.

Adult Small Group Teachers
Have a topic you’d love to teach? Adult Sunday School classes and Community Groups would love to learn from you. You can teach a series or a special event. Topics will go through approval by the pastoral staff. Teachers are needed for classes that meet on Sunday mornings as well as Community Groups that meet during the week year-round.

Adult Small Group Leaders
Interested in leading a Sunday School class or Community Group. Leaders are needed to help shepherd a class, coordinate teaching materials, and communicate with the church any needs of the class. Leaders will go through approval by the pastoral staff and training is provided.

Classroom Greeters
We are always looking for vibrant, smiling faces to welcome new people into adult classes on Sunday morning or for Wednesday Night Alive! Greeters will make sure the classrooms are prepared and assist people looking for classroom locations. Posting near the coffee and donuts on Sundays is a great place to wish people a good morning and to help people find classrooms as needed.

Discipleship Volunteers
If you are someone with a heart for learning but not interested in teaching or leading a group, you can sign up to be a Discipleship Volunteer to help with special events or projects as needed.

Home Point is a special kiosk at each campus that provides materials to help all guests and members to become intentional about building spiritual foundations at home.

Home Point Ambassadors
Volunteers help with distributing Home Point materials at the Home Point kiosks on selected Sundays.

Home Point Assistants
Assistants help prepare Home Point materials to be displayed, assembled,
or dispersed from the Home Point Centers.

The purpose of the Hospitality Ministry is to create an atmosphere where every person feels like part of the family of faith. We strive to greet each person with a warm smile, friendly welcome, knowledgeable information about St. Luke’s, and help for those who need it. Volunteers are needed every Sunday, but you can serve just one day per month as your schedule permits.

Greeters
We are looking for friendly faces to greet people at all entrances, as well as the doors into each worship space. Volunteers are needed for 20 minutes before or after your preferred worship service to serve in this role.

Special Events Volunteers
We have a variety of events throughout the year that are hosted at St. Luke’s, such as Annual Conference, Charge Conference, special concerts and events that need hospitality volunteers. If you are looking to serve just one or two times per year, this is a great opportunity for you.

Ushers
The St. Luke’s Ushers are a key part of making our guests and members feel welcome by helping them locate a place to sit with a warm greeting and friendly smile. Ushers also help collect the offering each week.

Welcome Center Volunteers
Volunteers help by serving before or after their preferred worship service at the Welcome Center desks outside the Sanctuary and Christian Life Center. These volunteers help guests and members find classrooms, restrooms, answer questions, or anything else they might need.

The music at St. Luke’s has always been exceptional. You can be part of this amazing tradition by singing or playing an instrument.

St. Luke’s Choir
All adult singers, college age and older, are encouraged to be part of the Chancel Choir. This choir sings every Sunday in the 10:50 a.m. Traditional Worship service, and at special events, and concerts throughout the year. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Choir Room located under the Sanctuary.

St. Luke’s Orchestra
This orchestra plays in worship for the 8:30 and 10:50 a.m. Traditional services. Rehearsals are on Sundays at 7:30 a.m. on the mornings.

Threefold is a great place to share in fellowship over a cup of freshly-brewed Starbucks coffee, enjoy a good book, or shop for a gift for a friend or loved one. All profits from Threefold support missions of St. Luke’s, such as Studio 222, El Sistema, Skyline Urban Ministries, and Mobile Meals.

Cashier
Threefold is looking for volunteers to assist shoppers on Sunday mornings as a greeter and cashier. Volunteers work on a rotational basis and training
is provided.

St. Luke’s Youth Ministry is an exciting place for 6-12th graders to grow spiritually through a meaningful combination of Christian education and unforgettable fellowship. Our mission is to create memorable events and develop authentic relationships in an environment that will help youth to know their worth is in Christ and not the world.

Volunteers should have an active mind and body to interact with teenagers, love God, have a passion for helping teens be in relationship with God and others, have fun, and relate to what they are going through in life. All volunteers must complete a background check prior to serving.

Adult Sponsor
Volunteer for youth events throughout the year, including missions, summer camps, and youth fellowship events.

Bible Study Teacher
You will receive lesson plans ahead of time for teaching Bible studies. You will receive periodic training on mentoring youth and will have the support of the Youth Director to empower you in engaging in Youth Ministry. Classes meet on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. and during Wednesday Night Alive.

Confirmation Faith Friend
Volunteers are teamed up with a student as they are going through Confirmation, typically during the 6th grade. They are encouraged to pray for the student and attend some Confirmation events.
