#1 St. Luke’s On Broadway starts this week

Sunday, July 22 marks the beginning of the fifth year of the sermon series, St. Luke’s On Broadway! It’s become a popular series and one that I look forward to all year. The music will be incredible and the shows we are highlighting this year should be really fun! The staff at St. Luke’s has been working on some fun surprises for several weeks. Here is the schedule of shows by week:

July 22 – Annie Get Your Gun  |  July 29 – Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
August 5 – Hairspray  |  August 12 – Guys and Dolls
August 19 – Mamma Mia!  | August 26 – Frozen

#2 Why talk about Broadway musicals in church?

Five years ago, we were celebrating the 125th Anniversary of St. Luke’s. As we were reflecting back on the original location for the church at 3rdand Broadway, we started thinking, “Wouldn’t it be fun to talk about Broadway musicals and highlight values we’ve been proclaiming for more than 125 years right here from Broadway in Oklahoma City?! It might sound strange to compare Broadway musicals to Biblical truths, but through the years, this series has brought about relevant, meaningful and even fun discussions about our Christian values. Popular musicals typically reflect the heart of our culture at a particular time in history and many times, the issues are timeless and part of the human experience. Not to mention the treasure trove of interesting, inspiring stories and background information surrounding cast members, writers and their lives.

#3 It’s a great time to come to church

It’s easy to get out of the habit of attending church, regularly, especially with summer schedules and vacations. So, if you’ve been waiting to come back to church, this is a great time! It’s also a really good time to invite friends, family and neighbors to church. Over the last few weeks I’ve been sharing statistics that tell us 96% of people who do not have a church home, admit they would attend if someone invited them! Sadly, those same statistics tells us that only 21% of Christians are inviting people to church! If you need help working up the courage to invite someone to church, here are some tips for inviting someone to church.
