BIBLE STUDIES

Genesis:  A Look at Eight Lessons That Can Change Your Life
Dr. Bob Long and Rev. Wendy Lambert  |  Sanctuary

So many of the stories in the book of Genesis can seem unfamiliar or confusing to our modern world.  Yet, the basic truths and needs of humanity are the same throughout time.  We all want to live with purpose.  We long for meaningful relationships.  We want to feel secure in our connection with God.  Join us for this eight-week study as we look at the timeless examples found in the first book of the Bible.

American Criminal Law and Restorative Justice
Rev. Stan Basler – Retired Clergy  |  Room 202

The course will focus on Old Testament scriptures dealing with justice from books of law, prophets, and wisdom. Following that will be a study of pertinent New Testament scriptures. Lectures will cover the historical development of the criminal justice and correction systems, and various theories propounded explaining the reasons for criminal behavior. We will look at the difference between restorative justice and retributive justice; discuss which one best addresses causes of crime and which is the better reflection of biblical theology. We will also look at the practical models of restorative justice. We will do a victim/offender role-play in class.

Faith Journey 101
Beth Armstrong – Director of Welcoming Ministry  |  Room 203

Are you a guest, new member, or a longtime member looking for a new way to get involved at St. Luke’s? This is just the class for you! Faith Journey 101 will explore what it means to be Methodist, what makes St. Luke’s membership unique, and how to help you find the perfect way to get connected in our family of faith. Through lessons, discussions, and group activities, you will learn everything you want to know about this amazing place!

The Churches of the New Testament
Rev. Chris Tiger – Conference Director of New Faith Communities  |  Room 200

Beginning in the Book of Acts, and continuing through the letters of Paul, we will gain insight into the first churches of the Christian movement.  Each church has its own distinct emphasis.  We will apply what we learn about the churches to our own spiritual journey.

Topics will include: understanding the “will of God,” what is discernment, using scripture in discernment, what is “mature” faith, how to tell if something is from God, and what is spiritual freedom? Class sessions build upon one another.

Parenting with Love and Logic
Debbie Moore – Licensed Counselor  |  Room 201

So Long As You Both Shall Live

This class will explore the most common problems that prevent a healthy relationship and look at positive practices that establish a home filled with peace. If you are an engaged couple, newly married, or have been together for a while, this class is a great chance for you to strengthen your marriage and bring joy to your home, “So long as you both shall live.”

Each get-together is designed to help you make connections in a fun, friendly, non-threatening way.
