We started our trip with an early morning today. We met at the airport in Oklahoma City at 6:15 today to begin the process of checking in our group and making our way through security. We gathered in the terminal for a time of prayer before taking off. After a quick flight to Dallas we boarded our next plane and began the three hour flight to Roatan, Honduras.
When we landed in Roatan we found that we were not the only ones who had the idea to come to Roatan over Spring Break. It took almost two hours to get us all through customs! Once we all made it through we met up with our guides and the leaders of the mission here in Honduras. For some in our group who have been before it was a reunion of old friends, and for those of us who are new to this mission it was a chance to meet instantly new friends.
We loaded up all the luggage and went to grab a quick dinner before going to the grocery store. Tomorrow we are going to church at the Flowers Bay Methodist Church, the oldest Methodist church on the island. After church we are providing a community lunch for the church so once we arrived at our mission house where we are staying and unpacked we spent our evening preparing the food for tomorrow’s lunch.
In less than 24 hours we have already experienced the family atmosphere of this community and have started getting to know each other and bonding as a team. We are anxious to see and meet more friends tomorrow at church and we look forward to a great week together. We’ll keep you posted on what we are doing as the week goes along and we’ll make sure to get some pictures at church tomorrow!
