We’ve been working at a house of a man named Mr. Rodney. The girls have worked tirelessly on mostly painting the porch area and front fence for two days and the boys have done a variety of jobs including demo and repair work on wall, putting up fence boards, setting posts, treating termites, and more around the house. They’ve learned to use nail guns and a variety of saws. The Revive 225 team of Alex, Molly Ann, and George has been great to work with and we’ve enjoyed their companionship, expertise, work, and supply running to help us complete these jobs. Today the homeowner surprised us with pizza for lunch which was such a kind gesture.
We’ve also experienced a lot of the Louisiana culture and food so far. Tonight we had jambalaya and last night we had red beans and rice. We will have a crawfish boil on Thursday and gumbo on Friday. We’ve eaten Zapp’s potato chips as part of our lunch, which are Louisiana made and today got to try the Voodoo flavor. Both afternoons we’ve gotten to stop for snowballs (snocones) on our way back to the church for showers. Tonight we also had a concert with a Cajun band called T’Monde. We’re looking forward to swamp tour and a visit to New Orleans for the afternoon and dinner. It’s definitely been a cultural experience!
Our next most exciting thing that happened was that during our shower time today, the fire alarm went off so we had to exit the building (which was a little inconvenient for those getting ready to go in or out of showers!). An after school program had a popcorn machine and burnt popcorn, so it wasn’t anything serious, but the Baton Rouge fire department was on the scene quickly. We’ve also had good worship times and lots of fun playing games together and telling great stories. The group has bonded well and we’re really enjoying each other’s company.
