Bible Point: Keep following God, even when it’s hard.
Key Verse: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance” (James 1:2-3).
Some of the apostles were persecuted and put in jail for telling people about Jesus. But even jail didn’t stop the apostles from sharing the good news. Like the apostles, we need to keep following God, even when it’s hard (Acts 5:12-42). Strengthen your family’s faith learning and growth at home with this easy idea:
- Talk about a time you felt persecuted. Perhaps someone made fun of your political views, or maybe you experienced discrimination at your job.
- Then talk with your kids about what it might look like to be persecuted for their faith— anything from someone picking on them because they choose to pray at school, to a relative refusing to talk to them because they’re Christians.
- Think about how the apostles survived hard times. Encourage your kids to keep following God during hard times, just as the apostles did.
PRAYER
God, we love You and trust You. Please be with us when we worry that other people will make fun of us or persecute us for sharing the truth about You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
