Bible Point: God wants us to love our enemies.

Key Verse: “But I tell you; Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Matthew 5:44
We learned this week how David showed love to his enemy Saul by choosing to not kill him when he had the chance (1 Samuel 26:5-25).

Strengthen your family’s faith learning and growth at home with this easy idea:

  1. Talk about a time you sought revenge on someone you thought deserved it. Tell about how you felt and what the effects were on the other person and on you.
  2. Contrast that story with a time you chose to forgive someone even when that person did something to hurt you. What effects did your forgiveness have on that person and on you?
  3. Discuss with your children what happens in your life when you choose forgiveness over revenge. Encourage your family members to think of someone they need to forgive, and then ask them to share how they can demonstrate their forgiveness this week.

PRAYER

God, we need Your help to love our enemies. Please help us show forgiveness to people who hurt us, just as you have shown forgiveness to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
