“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.” –Psalm 84:5
During the summer of 1988, several youth leaders and pastors from Oklahoma created a youth mission experience, in Oklahoma City, called Youth Force. This event would allow youth and adults from all over the state to come together and serve in missions. Now, almost 30 years later, Youth Force has expanded to communities all over Oklahoma. Hundreds of students and adults work each year to bring hope to some of our states most troubled communities.
The idea of Youth Force came into being after several youth leaders had taken their students on missions to other parts of the country. Their experiences opened their eyes to new and creative ways to organize and run a mission camp here in Oklahoma. When they returned home from these various events they took their new visions and created something that would bless life for many years. Their experiences elsewhere created possibilities at home.
One of the largest obstacles to a greater vision for our life is a limited perspective. When we fail to have new experiences, we limit our ability to dream beyond what we have already seen. New experiences help us to paint a much broader picture of what the world can be.
Have you tried something new lately? Have you gone somewhere different recently? What new experience is available to you? Take a chance. Take an adventure. When we see something new, when we have diverse experiences, we see greater possibilities for our lives and the lives of others around us.
