You’ll get through this.
It won’t be painless.
It won’t be quick.
But God will use this mess for good.
Don’t be foolish or naïve.
But don’t despair either.
With God’s help, you’ll get through this.
These are the words to the theme of a Bible study by Max Lucado called “You’ll Get Through This.” A couple of years ago, I led this study with our St. Luke’s Senior Bible Study that meets on Monday mornings. Lucado teaches on the story of Joseph and the difficult challenges that Joseph faced. Lucado emphasized that Joseph’s ending success was built on his hope and confidence that God was for him and with him. Each week of the study, we said these words together as a reminder for ourselves.
I’ve had these words come to my mind several times in the last few weeks. There are many ways that you may feel different or feel overwhelmed. There’s a lot of information to process. There’s a lot of new expectations for how to do things (distance learning school, social distancing rules, etc.). There’s a lot of new technology to learn and experience. There’s a lot of time with the same people, or maybe there’s a lot of time to be alone. There’s a lot of opinions. But you’ll get through this.
When you feel overwhelmed, say these words to yourself. You don’t have to despair because God is strong, and God is good, and God is with us. With God’s help, you’ll get through this.
