Have you ever sat down and asked yourself “Who are you looking for?” “What are you looking for”? Has the answer changed throughout your life?
One question Jesus asked, more than once, was about longing. In John’s Gospel, Jesus asked these questions in different times during His ministry. In the beginning of His ministry He asked, “What are you looking for?”. He asks, “Who are you looking for?” when the soldiers come to arrest Him. Jesus again asks the women at the tomb, “Who are you looking for?”. This must have been an important question for Jesus to ask so many times in His life.
What are you looking for? Who are you looking for? I know for me the answer to these questions have changed over the years. When I was a child, I was looking for a way out of the pain of my childhood. When I was nearing my thirties, I was looking for someone to marry and start a family. Now that I am in my fifties, I realize who I was looking for all along was God, and what I was looking for was a relationship with Him. The thing I have come to realize is God was always with me. I am the one that walked away, looking for other things, but He was always there waiting for me.
If you are looking for someone or something in your life, stop and take the time to pray and talk to God. Build a relationship with Him. God is always there and will supply all your needs.
