Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. – Luke 2:10
My daughter, Carter, is the light of my life and putting a smile on her face is one of my favorite things to do. I often find myself pondering how Jeffrey, my husband, and I can bring joy to her life while also keeping her grounded and grateful. We love to travel and feel so thankful when we can get away from all the day-to-day stress and spend time together as a family.
Last fall, we had the opportunity to go to Crested Butte and enjoy a week in the mountain air. The trip was made with my brother and his family, which made it all the more fun. We did it all: hiking, kid’s museum, restaurants, and shopping. At the house we did puzzles, played board games, and did artwork. It was such a wonderful week!
Once home, while talking about the trip with Carter, I asked, “What was your favorite part of our trip?” She answered without hesitation, “That we were all there together.” It hit me in that moment… all she really wants, no matter where we are or what we are doing, is have uninterrupted and intentional time together.
It is a great reminder for me during the Advent season to think what is truly impactful for my family. I can plan all the fun, buy all the gifts, do all the many holiday activities, but the most important thing I need to do is spend quality time together as a family. Eat a meal around a table, make a holiday craft, or do a family Bible study. Put the technology aside and connect!
This holiday season, it’s a personal goal of mine to take time to reflect on the birth of Jesus with my sweet gal, Carter. Set aside time to read the Christmas story to remind us of the hope and joy we have in God through the baby born in a manger. This will surely put a smile on her face, and seeing God’s love shine through her childlike faith is all this momma needs! Joy to the world, the Lord has come!
