“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

The Drama Book Shop is a historic store in New York City. This beloved little shop has sold countless books, scripts and pieces of sheet music. It has long been a place where people from the Broadway and theater community have bought and sold work of all kinds. Sadly, the ever-increasing property cost of the city that never sleeps has forced The Drama Book Shop to announce that it is closing its historic doors. Thankfully, all hope is not lost for The Drama Book Shop.

Shortly after the owners of shop announced that they would soon be closing, a hope for redemption emerged. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony Award winning performer and writer of “Hamilton” fame offered, along with a few others, from production team of “Hamilton” to purchase the store and keep open for future patrons to be blessed with creative contents of the books and resources of this wonderful little store.

Rozanne Seelen is the current owner of The Drama Book Shop. She is 84 years-old. She was sad to see the store close its doors, but she no-longer had the energy to maintain her store, much-less re-locate. She described Lin-Manuel Miranda and company as her “white knights.”

We all find ourselves in the midst of the difficult moments of life where we need help. Unable to overcome the odds that we face, we look to help from beyond ourselves. That is the story of our faith. That is who Jesus is for us. When we face moments of weakness, Christ becomes our strength. When our own work is not enough, Christ, in love redeems us and gives us the gift of new life.
